Tenacious D are back in the studio.
Actor and comedian Jack Black told Entertainment Weekly's website that he and bandmate Kyle Gass are working on a song they hope to have included in a remake of 1981's Heavy Metal directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button).
"We're submitting one song for Fincher's consideration," Black said. "That's a horrible scoop to give you.
"Now, if the movie comes out and you see we're not in it, you'll be like, 'Oh, rejected by Fincher!'"
Kanye West might be pleased to know Tenacious D are working on new material, since the rapper named the satirical duo as one of his influences in his episode of VH1 Storytellers that aired on Saturday.
Tenacious D's last album, The Pick Of Destiny, was released as a soundtrack to their 2006 movie Tenacious D In: The Pick Of Destiny. Black previously said a third album would be released in 2010 or 2012, and the band have reportedly written a new song called "Death Star" that should be included on it. Gass told Billboard.com last summer that the band had only written "one to one and a half songs" for the album and would like to write at least 12 to 15.
Tenacious D's second DVD, The Complete Master Works 2, came out in November.
